During his speech he declared it was time to "turn the page..." and to focus on problems back here at home in the U.S... [static] ...As the nation winds down the trillion dollar war in Iraq, said the President, it must turn its resources to tackle challenges at home like the economy...
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Our most urgent task is to restore our economy...
MITTENS: [computing sounds - "PROCESSING... JUST A MOMENT PLEASE..."] The United States of America put 20 years of sanctions, invasion, war, and occupation on Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people are dead. Millions displaced. The economy shattered and hijacked. The environment is devastated and will remain toxic for thousands of years. Therefore, it is obscene for U.S. people to now walk away from the disaster they created, and then talk of “restoring our economy”. Where are the apologies? Where are the reparations? Why are U.S. Americans not in Iraq planting new trees, rebuilding homes, or taking care of the suffering? What would be a responsible thing to do, in a situation like this? ...When I grow up I'm going to be a scientist.
